Spatial Profiles and Determinants of Multidimensional Energy Poverty in Rural Nigeria

This study aims at examining the multidimensional energy poverty (MEP) and its determinants in six geo-political zones of rural Nigeria. We utilized 2018/2019 Nigeria Living Standard Survey (NLSS) data collected by National Bureau Statistics (NBS) collaboration with World Bank. The were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Multidimensional Energy Poverty Index (MEPI), Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA), Tobit model, Pearson correlation. analysis showed that over 90% respondents live below MEP line North East (NE) South West (SW) having highest (98.7%) lowest (82%) respectively. intensity national level was 0.330. results index (MEPI) which stood 0.31 country, NE (0.345) SW (0.279). Although varying strength relationships across zones, cooking, lighting, kitchen appliances are notable dimensions have a significant positive correlation aggregate MEP. Education, sex, occupation household head as well size monthly expenditure country. There implications for zone-specific women-focused interventions relating to clean access appliances.
